We are in a very unique part of the city where various layers of memories coexist and the existence of Uludağ, which lasts for tens of kilometers, fades to form a dreamy background. In the memory of the city, there is a code that is highly identified with sports, due to both the old stadium and the old sports hall which once stood on the project site.

Although we believe it is difficult to change the regional adjectives in the minds of the locals, it is also easy to integrate new planning strategies. In this manner, if we dig this area a little, we feel like some sports remains will come out from under the ground, at least the ones in the memories.. Therefore, setting up the place correctly constitutes the intellectual spine of our project.

SETTING UP THE GROUND -_|

Our design creates a qualified interface between the city and the park by creating a sports axis in the middle. By attaching secondary axles to this main pedestrian spine, we aimed to make the area as lively and a part of daily life as possible. This axis defines an uninterrupted line between the Park and the street, supported by consecutive public spaces of different programs. The layout also connects to the existing Garden landscape and forms an integrated relationship with it.

The fact that the program layout occupies a relatively small percentage of the project area, allows the site to be designed as a sports interface. Our proposal is to reveal the sports codes that already have a place in the minds of the urbanites and re arrange the spaces in such a way that a strong connection between the Garden, the Park and the Sports hall is established.

A delicate interface between the park and the city

A LINKAGE WITH THE ENVIRONMENT

For many years, people walked along the main street unaware that a giant park existed right next to them. The area where the park comes into contact with the city has always been very weak due to the sports hall, the factory building and the high school blocking the passage and limiting the access to the park. With the transformation of the stadiym in to the national garden and the demolition of the factory building, the potential for a more qualified interface between the park and the city has arisen.

An “INTERFACE” between the city and the park

With the transformation of the stadium into the national garden and the demolition of the factory building, the potential for a more qualified interface between the park and the city has arisen.

Urban Sports Axis

The memory of the place contains the sports code due to both the old stadium and the old sports hall. The building footprint, covering only %27 of the project site, allows us to form a very strong axis between the city and the park, which we call the Urban Sports Axis.

Urban Facilities

Different types of public squares, various scaled open sports areas and other facilities are attached to the main axis in order to bring liveliness to the area. Basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, football, mini golf and table tennis areas are all designed together with public facilities such as cafeterias, lockers and other service and storage areas.

Diagonal Positioning

Due to the diagonal placement of the building, public spaces and gaps of different sizes were obtained between the building and the project area. In these areas, the park was allowed to leak into the area, and the green landscape texture was maintained together with the pedestrian flow from the public garden. In addition, a wide entrance square was created on the road front, and extra space was created on the north facade for functions such as athlete entrances, service roads and vehicle waiting areas.

Melting the Boundaries

Here we have a very good opportunity to connect the street and the park tightly. We worked on different sections in order to eliminate the bad relationship in the current situation and to integrate with the environmet delicately. Instead of the 5-meter stone wall that is currently between our site and the park, we proposed a section where the park stretches into the project area. The wire fences and the slope between the site and the garden are replaced with an open space setup.

The Continuity of the Park

All roads and pathways of the adjacent park leading to the project area have been defined by public squares and extended towards the project area. By extending all of the secondary roads, the connection between the park and the main street is strengthened.

The Intermediate Domino Stone

In order to consider the space between the Bursa Atatürk Anatolian High School and the National Garden as a qualified urban facility, the Sports Hall building is situated next to the High School, leaning towards the northern edge of the site. The proposed project works just like an intermediate domino stone with its structural elements sticking together at one side and the open public spaces on the other side.

A Convenient Co-Existence

OPEN AIR AMPHITHEATER AND VIEWING MEADOW

The facade of the basketball hall facing the National Garden can be opened when desired, creating an ideal situation for different usage alternatives. Sports competitions, concerts and different kinds of events can be observed from the park, extending the closed space towards the park.

ULUDAĞ MOUNTAIN AND THE PARK

All the audience-related spaces of the designed Sports Hall are directed towards the unique view created by Uludağ Mountain and the Park. In this way, all users in the basketball hall, foyers, swimming pool and cafeterias can associate with the view at any time of the dat. In addition, a terrace is designed at the southern side of the building overlooking the National Garden.

An Afternoon in KentPark

This part of the city is currently going through an urban transformation. The old buildings and spaces are being reshaped in accordance with the motives of the 21st century world. The green areas are increased and new potentials of creating more qualified interfaces between the park and the city are created. Considering the green environment and the afore-mentioned context of the site, we think that the proposed building should exhibit an extremely calm and dignified existence. That’s why the building facade consists only of two materials: steel and profilite. This way, the visitors can be aware of the event that’s taking place in the sports hall while the natural landscape of the outside can be perceived from the interior space. When there is an event in the building, the building shining among the trees is an invitation to the citizens.
